It is with great sadness that the family of Elwood H. Curtis “Joe” announces his passing on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at the age of 81 years.

Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Carmel Curtis. He will forever be in the hearts of his daughters, Annemarie and Marianne, Walter and Tim(son-in-laws), his treasured granddaughter Miranda and he was a loving brother-in-law to Sissy and Lynn. Joe will also be forever remembered by his extended family and dear friends.

A Memorial Service will be held in his honor at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd West, Silver Spring, MD on Thursday, December 29, at 1pm. Interment private.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorial contributions in his name be made to charity of your choice.

On Thursday, December 22, 2016, of Annandale, VA.  Beloved wife of the late Frank Winters lost her valiant fight against cancer.  She was a cherished sister of Margaret C. (John) Martiny and Thomas E. (Dolores) Callahan, Jr.  Also survived by one niece, three nephews, three great nieces and five great nephews. MARIE KASNER TANA (Age 95)

Marie Tana passed away on December 2, 2016. Mrs. Tana was born in Westphalia, Texas, in 1921 to Adolph and Rosa Kasner. Mrs. Tana was married to Vincent Tana of Washington, DC, in 1947. She is preceded in death by Vincent, her husband of 68 years, and two children, Charles and Lorraine. She is survived by two daughters, Cecilia Tana of Westphalia, Texas, and Margaret Tana and her husband, Michael Dymek of Silver Spring, Maryland.

Mrs. Tana graduated from Providence Hospital Nursing School in Waco, Texas. After graduation, she traveled to Washington, DC, where she married Vincent Tana in 1947 and worked for 37 years as a registered nurse at what is now called the Washington Hospital Center. She lived in Maryland for 55 years before returning to Westphalia with Vincent in 2001.

Services were held at the Church of the Visitation in Westphalia, Texas, on December 8, 2016. On Monday, December 19, 2016, friends and relatives may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD 20901 (Valet Parking), from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, at a later date. ALAN L. STOKELY (Age 91) “Red”

Passed away peacefully at home the morning of December 14, 2016. Alan was a member of the “greatest generation.” He was born in 1925, grew up during the Great Depression, and served with distinction in the Navy, in the South Pacific theater, during WWII. He completed college on the GI Bill, with a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Nebraska. (He later completed a law degree at Georgetown University.) He worked for Armstrong Contracting and Supply and its subsidiary ACandS for 40 years. He and Helen Sargent Stokely enjoyed almost 65 years of laughter-filled marriage as they raised their four children. He is survived by his wife, Helen; children, John (Susie) Stokely, Ann (Rob) Baker, Jayne (John) Hench and Paul (Sarah) Stokely; four grandsons, John, Charles, Galen and Liam; great-granddaughter, Anna; his sister, Renee and his brother, Harry. He was predeceased by brothers, Charles and Paul and grandson, Christopher. Alan was a devout Catholic, attended Mass daily after he retired, and served as a lay reader for many years. Inspired by the selflessness and generosity of St. Francis of Assisi, he studied with the St. Mary of the Angels Fraternity and made his Profession as a Secular Franciscan with a commitment to Francis’ way of spiritual life. Alan was a blessing to his family who adored and admired him for his example and faith. Over the past weeks, family stayed with him daily and through the long nights, a testament to the dedication his own acts inspired. On Monday, December 26, visitation with the family will be in the chapel of Riderwood Retirement Community on Gracefield Road in Silver Spring, MD at 10 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 27 at 1 p.m. at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD.
